Giving gifts at Xmas owes its origin to the Magi who started the tradition of Christmas gifts. They came to Jerusalem to greet baby Jesus in the manger with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.

The Magi were wise men and their Xmas gifts were symbols of tribute, worship and joy for Christ considered as King and the son of God, although Magi are associated more with the Feast of Epiphany on January 6, they can be regarded as the pioneer in Christmas gift giving tradition following the birth of Jesus.
